Concept & Vision Development
AK Cultural Planning, in partnership with Lord Cultural Resources, conducted concept testing, including visioning and ongoing guidance to advance the goal of developing an African American Art Museum and Cultural Center in Hillsborough County, Florida. This planning included an assessment of opportunities and findings from market research as well as order of magnitude assessment of space needs, capital costs and operating costs.
The client team lauded the consulting work, and the concept that emerged from a robust options analysis. The AAACC aims to be the first of its kind, created with the community and for the community. Currently, a new 50,000-square-foot African American Arts & Cultural Center (AAACC) with outdoor amenities is planned for construction. This new center will focus on African American art, culture, and history in a centralized location within the Tampa Bay region. This includes large gallery space for displaying the work of local artists, along with educational classes and experiences for children, students, and families. It will also serve as a historical and cultural hub celebrating African American life and contributions to the region.
